Chocolate & Walnut Tart Recipe | Mini Modette
Bake this easy tasty Chocolate & Walnut Tart, takes around 1 hour & 15 minutes in total!

Ingredients

  • Shortcrust Pastry - 375g
  • Salted Butter - 50g
  • Cooking Chocolate (Dark) - 185g
  • Beaten Eggs x 4
  • Maple Syrup - 200ml
  • Walnut Halves - 200g

You will also need:
  • 9-inch Flan Tin
  • ParchmentBaking Sheet
  • Ceramic Baking Beans
  • Pyrex bowl
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Medium sized saucepan
Before prepping the ingredients, make sure to preheat oven at 180ºc/160ºC fan (or gas mark 4)

Method

1. On a lightly floured surface begin rolling out the pastry to line the base and sides of the 9-inch flan tin. The pastry should be now more than 1cm (0.4 inches) in thickness.

2. Place parchment/baking sheet over the top of the pastry, covering the base and sides. Then fill the base of the baking sheet with the ceramic baking beans. This technique is known as baking blind.

3. Bake the pastry for approximately 25 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove the paper and the beans from the tin before placing back into the oven for another 10 minutes until the pastry is pale gold in colour. Remove from the oven and leave to cool, allowing time to prep the tart filling.

4. Now it's time to melt the chocolate and butter! Put a small amount of water in the saucepan on a medium heat placing the pyrex bowl in or over the saucepan. Turn temperature down to a simmer. Break up the chocolate into individual squares and the butter into smaller chunks, place into the bowl slowly allowing the chocolate and butter to melt more easily. Once melted you should be left with a gooey chocolate mixture.

6. Whisk together the 4 beaten eggs with all the maple syrup pour this into the chocolate mixture and mix

7. Pour this mixture into the other large mixing bowl. Add the chocolate mixture to it, mixing as you go, sprinkling 3/4 of the walnut halves and mixing all ingredients well

8. Now pour the mixture into the cooled pastry case and sprinkle the remainder of walnut halves on top:

Place in the oven for between 30-40 minutes until the filling has set. Once out the of the oven leave the tart to cool.
