DIY Christmas Snowflake Jumper | Craft Project | Blogmas

Today's post is how to design your own Christmas Jumper, in time for Christmas Jumper Day on Friday December 16th.
It's a cute and super easy Snowflake and snowballs design, 100% original. I was inspired by this ASOS jumper, no way was I paying £30 for that, this DIY jumper costs a lot less to make.

You will need:

  • Grey/Cream Crew Neck Sweatshirt (£9.99 New Look Mens in XS)
  • 5-6 Felt Snowflake shapes (if not white felt & snowflake stencil (find plenty of these online) to shape the felt will work)
  • Silver fabric paint
  • white fabric paint
  • Small white craft pom-poms
  • White thread, needle, pins & scissors
  • Soft pencil
  • Fabric glue
  • A4 White card
  • Small paintbrushes
  • Artist sponges with handles

The Design

Before getting started on the sweatshirt, I used Adobe Photoshop to roughly plan out my design.

Starting with on the Snowflakes

The snowflakes I used were felt snowflakes part of a garland connected with nylon thread that only cost me £1.99 in The Range.

On to a paint palette squeeze out some of the silver fabric paint, fill a glass with cold water and dampen the sponge and mix into the paint (this will make the paint less thick and it will go further.

Place all the snowflakes on a sheet of white card ready for painting. Starting with the first snowflake, cover completely one side of it with the silver paint. While waiting for it to dry a bit, paint a second exactly the same way.

Take the first painted snow, on the opposite side apply glue, wait for it to go slightly tacky, then place it on the sweatshirt and press it down.

Repeat these stages for all the snowflakes. Then leave to dry for several hours, before stitching on the pom-pom "snowballs".

The Snowballs

After a few hours have passed, it's time to stitch on the pom-poms. I used two different sized pom-poms, to create a more interesting effect.

Using a soft pencil, mark where all the pom-poms will go directly on the sweatshirt, then pin the pom-poms in those exact places.

Now take the white thread and thread the needle to begin stitching on the pom-poms. Once finished that concludes the process to create your own designed Christmas Jumper, simple as that!

To just tidy it up I went round the sides of each snowflake with some more silver paint to cover the white felt, to make it look more polished.
